The Israeli government discovered and confiscated more than 80 addresses for bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies from the Palestinian group Hamas. The Office for the Fight Against the Financing of Terrorism published a list with information on what types of digital assets the organization receives. These addresses are related to seven activists, who transfer the funds to intermediary purses and to high-risk exchange houses.
According to the government, the cryptocurrency donations are directed to the Al Qassam Brigades (AQB), Hamas's military arm, as well as other close associates of the group. Likewise, the combatants receive funds in bitcoin, USDT, DOGE, XRP, among others.
According to CryptoNews, these actions have subsequently been given to donations in cryptocurrencies to Hamas in May of this year, after the increase in clashes between the terrorist group and the forces of order.
On the other hand, it is noteworthy that this is the first cryptocurrency seizure related to terrorist financing that includes a wide variety of digital assets. Although the blockchain intelligence firm, Chainalysis, qualifies it as a seizure, the truth is that the present case is an address marking. This means that if any digital asset service provider receives funds from these addresses, they must report to the authorities or even block the cryptocurrencies.
The dissemination of the aforementioned list is due to the investigations carried out, in the bitcoiner field, by companies such as Chainalysis and Elliptic, which on several occasions have established agreements with governments, public or private entities to carry out investigations on the place of origin and destination of crypto assets. Also, some exchanges have contracted for this type of services in order to settle regulatory and compliance issues.
