Peruvian Government will implement the National Center for Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence

The Government of Francisco Sagasti, represented by Premier Bermudez, has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the South Korean ambassador in Peru, in order to implement a National Center for Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence, which will promote the use of digital technologies in favor of citizenship.

According to communication of the Government, this agreement is constituted in the National Center for Cooperation in Innovation and Digital Transformation Peru - Korea, which will strengthen the advancement of the National Center for Digital Security, the design of the National Data Center, the incubation of projects in the Government Laboratory and Digital Transformation and the establishment of a national, decentralized, high-performance center that accelerates the advancement of artificial intelligence in the country.

The head of the PCM highlighted the importance of signing international agreements with countries that have been leaders in the technology and innovation sector, such as South Korea:

"It is essential to establish cooperation ties with countries such as South Korea, which has been categorized as the leader in digital innovation worldwide."

Within the framework of the National Digital Transformation Policy and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, this National Center will accelerate the implementation of strategic actions to promote the following: 
  • digital talent,
  • digital innovation,
  • digital government,
  • the digital economy,
  • digital trust,
  • the intensive use of data for decision making, digital architecture, and
  • the use and exploitation of disruptive digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, smart cities, machine learning, 3D printing, among others.

"We are a transitional Government and we are in the last months of management, but for us it is essential to leave this agreement consolidated so that the future Government finds solid bases to continue taking advantage of technology for the benefit of the population," the premier remarked.

It is important to specify that through this agreement a Cooperation Committee is constituted that will identify and annually review the most urgent projects in the field of digital government, digital innovation and digital transformation to solve the different problems and thus promote digital education, digital inclusion, management of smart cities, the use of artificial intelligence in the productive sectors, in the fight against corruption, citizen security, health, justice and other aspects that are destined to favor Peruvians through the use of technology.
Finally, it is highlighted that within the framework of this agreement, the Ministry of the Interior and Security of the Republic of Korea will make cash contributions equivalent to US $ 1,000,000 for the execution of the aforementioned projects, which also includes the training of Peruvian professionals from all regions. For its part, the PCM will contribute goods equivalent to US $ 1,000,000 for the operation of the National Cooperation Center.
