Portugal's electricity company will accept payments with bitcoin

The electricity company Luzboa, based in Viseu, Portugal, and with a majority shareholding of the Spanish group Nexus Energía, has recently announced that its users will be able to pay the electricity bill with bitcoin (BTC), as reported Criptonoticias

The special rate of payment with bitcoins will be called “Bit Spot”. The president of the company, Pedro Morais Leitão, stated that he was aware of the volatility of the cryptocurrency, but assured that they are "prepared to take the risk." It should be noted that payments made to the company in bitcoin will be converted into euros.

The decision to accept bitcoins is due to the growing interest of users in technology, which is why it considers it convenient to “provide the opportunity to use new means of payment” based on cryptocurrencies.

Although he did not specify when the measure will be implemented, Morais assured that they are working on developing their own wallet and it is expected to have everything ready before the end of February.
